Question:
If I do it this way, do I still need to use those "biscuit hidden
fasteners" that put those ugly gaps between the boards? Man, I hate
big gaps in a beautiful hardwood floor, know what I mean?
Answer:
This method will reduce movement to a minimum so that you can install
the boards closer together and use Deckmaster
Hidden Fasteners so you don't see fasteners... AND you don't have
big gaps between the boards as you will with other hidden fasteners.
Question:
From what I have read, it does not appear that most carpenters or even
deck builders know much about Ipe. True?
Answer:
Most deck builders and most carpenters have no experience with Ipe. Besides
that, Ipe is also not “carpenter friendly”. We have been building
with Ipe for a number of years and have learned how to work with this
fine material.
Question:
How critical is it for the installer to have Ipe experience?
Answer:
Do you want them performing OJT (On the Job Training) on your deck?
Question:
From what I have read, the most common problems with Ipe seems to be cupping
or bowing of the wood. What causes this?
